Welcome to My Blog!

Welcome to my blog! I am Melissa McLamb. I use to spend my days teaching children music. Now I spend my days helping ladies look and feel better. Ladies of all ages. Some moms who are busy musicians, teachers, vocal coaches, stay at home moms or moms in other professions.  If you are looking for support and help in your fitness and nutrition and you are over the age of 35, this blog is for you! Need tips on how to care for your voice as a professional musician or teacher? This blog is also for you!

More About Me

Five years ago, after having my third child at age 40, I found myself in a place where I was unhealthy, out of shape and needed to lose about 55 pounds.  My husband and I purchased the workout program P90X and began our journey to looking and feeling better.  Over 120 days, I not only started feeling better, but also lost 35 lbs and 9 inches off my body. I have completed over 8 programs and learned a lot about fitness and nutrition along the way. My biggest discovery is finding out how changes in my fitness and nutrition have directly affected my voice for the better, as well as my quality of life as a busy mom. What I have discovered is so simple yet has made the biggest impact on my life. I wish I had known how nutrition can improve so many aspects of your overall quality of life. I may not have struggled with infertility, adrenal fatigue, acid reflux and so much more in my mid-20’s to late 30’s.

How Fitness/Nutrition Has Helped My Voice

As someone who has suffered through vocal nodules three times, I wish I knew then what I know now. I can tell when I sing that I am better able to support my diaphragm because my core muscles are so strong from the fitness habits I have developed. The nutrition habits I have learned have allowed me to come off some medications entirely and only use others when I need them.  This blog is dedicated to sharing with you the tips I have learned and researched over the last 25 years to help me not only maintain good singing and vocal health into my 40’s but also allow my voice to become even stronger. I write about vocal health tips, singing technique, fitness and health tips, as well as provide fitness tips, nutrition tips and recipes for busy moms.

My Biography

I am a former music teacher.  Although I have been doing something in the music field my whole career, I am now a busy mom of 3 kids.  I began teaching elementary school music after graduating from Meredith College.  After almost 7 years in the classroom, I worked as a Children’s and Youth Choir Coordinator for Providence Baptist Church in Raleigh, NC. Then, after my first child was born, I stayed home and began music consulting for the Baptist State Convention of NC. I have been both a preschool music teacher and a vocal coach to high school students. I have worked with all ages of children and youth!  In 1999, I founded OneVoice ministries at Providence Baptist Church. Today, I spend my time directing this ensemble of high school girls, as well as singing on my church’s praise team.

My family

I have been married to my husband, James McLamb, for 24 years. James is a coach, speaker and trainer with Zig Ziglar and co-founder of Generation Ziglar.  We have three beautiful kids ages 16, 13 and 6. So things can get pretty crazy around our house! They constantly challenge me and stretch me daily as a mom and bring so much joy to my life! Thank you for visiting my blog!
