My Favorite Healthy Snacks
My Favorite Healthy Snacks are not always the ones that are good for me. Before I learned to eat clean, my favorite go to snack was Cheezits. They were my kids favorite snack too. I never thought about whether they could be sabotaging my weight loss or not. I just loved the cheesy delicious goodness. (now you want some too don’t you? 🙂
But now I have learned that making wiser choices with snacks gives me not only more energy, but also helps me stay fuller longer. I now know that eating empty calories full of carbs, such as my favorite snack Cheezits, isn’t gonna help me achieve my health and fitness goals nor get me to the end of my day with the proper nutrition I need as a busy mom.
Since most of the women I work with in my challenges also struggle with snacking or even grazing on the wrong foods throughout the day, I thought I would put together a list of my favorite go to healthy snacks. It is important to eat about 5 to 6 times a day, so here are some healthy snack options.
#1- Apples and Almonds
Apples are perfect this time of the year because they are in season in the fall! I love Honey Crisp or Pink lady apples for their natural sweetness. Raw unsalted almonds pair well with apple slices- giving you a perfect combo of a fruit (healthy carb) and healthy fat together. Trader Joes has pre-portioned almonds that are great for grabbing and eating on the run as a busy mom.
#2- Apples and Almond Butter
Again, apples are delicious dipped in another one of my favorite healthy fats, almond butter. Justin’s Almond Butter is one of my favorites and I love that they offer a quick grab and go packet for convenience on the run.
#3- GREEK Yogurt Parfait- Make with Apples, Strawberries, Blueberries or Bananas
Pair plain greek yogurt with any fruit for a delicious protein and carb heaven! Sweetening your own greek yogurt cuts out all the sugars found in the presweetened varieties which also add calories and fat.

Harvest Apple GREEK Yogurt Parfait RECIPE
4ozs of Plain GREEK YOGURT
1/2 apple cubed in small pieces
1/4 cup of Udi’s granola
sprinkle cinnamon and nutmeg, drizzle with agave nectar
Add GREEK yogurt to a bowl, mixed cubed apples into yogurt, add 1/4 cup of granola on top, sprinkle with cinnamon, nutmeg and drizzle agave nectar on top.
#4- Carrots and Hummus
Carrots (even cucumbers, mini peppers) dipped in hummus is delicious. This is a great way to get in a vegetable with a healthy fat.
Shakeology is my go-to in the afternoon for extra energy and curb my appetite until dinner. BONUS- #6- Fruit in Mason Jars
One way to keep fruit fresher longer is to wash your fruit as soon as you bring it home from the grocery store in a a good veggie wash. Allow to air dry and then store in air tight mason jars. Store in your refrigerator at eye level for an easy grab and go snack!
